FAQs
How does the stone grinding process work? What are the benefits?
Using stone grinders instead of more conventional nut butter grinding machinery allows us to create silky smooth nut butters that are packed with nutrition and taste fresh as can be. Stone grinding prevents oxidation and friction, both of which lead to rancidity and nutrient degradation. Our slow stone grinding process takes about 24 hours and temperatures never exceed 100F.
Where do you source your ingredients?
At Dastony ingredients are everything to us. Since our nut butters are 100% single ingredient, it is paramount that we source the freshest, highest quality nuts and seeds that we can find. We don’t mask rancid or stale tasting nuts and seeds with added oils, salt, and sugar. Our ingredients are sourced from all around the world - ranging from Europe, Asia, South America, and the United States. Want to know a specific flavors origins? Give us a call 1800 925 0577 and we’re happy to help.
I have allergies! Do you process peanuts, dairy, wheat, gluten, corn, or soy?
We do not process any of the above. The main allergen risks here are tree nuts - as we process a lot of those. If you have any specific allergies and would like to clarify with us please contact us and we’re happy to help.
What are the benefits of sprouted nuts vs. regular?
All nuts, seeds and grains contain varying levels of a naturally occurring anti-nutrient called phytic acid. Ingesting too much of this compound can inhibit the body's ability to properly digest and assimilate nutrients from the foods we eat. By soaking and sprouting nuts, seeds, and grains an enzymatic process is activated within the germ of the plant, phytic acid is deactivated, and the essential nutrients such as fatty acids and proteins are easier for the body to absorb.
Why do Dastony butters vary slightly in consistency, color and flavor?
We pride ourselves in our small batch, artisan craftsmanship - it ensures that we have more control over the quality of our products. It does, however, lend to more variation in appearance and texture from batch to batch. While we do our best to keep things consistent, our products are hand-crafted and made without processed stabilizing ingredients and therefore vary just like real fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds found in nature.
Speaking of texture - is my almond butter supposed to be this runny?
Yep, you can thank our signature stone grinding process for that ultra silky, smooth, creamy-dreamy texture. Perfect for drizzling over all of your favorite foods. However, that being said, a few of our butters do not make the best candidates for peanut butter stand-ins as they may slide right out from between the bread. This has to do with the viscosity of the naturally occurring oils present in the nut or seed. Placing the jar in the fridge will solidify the oils somewhat and thicken the texture.
Does my jar of Dastony need refrigeration after opening?
Nope! all of our butters and spreads have a 12 month shelf life from the date of manufacturing and are entirely shelf stable, even after opening. Each jar will have a best before date printed on it to ensure you consume it within that time period.
Where are your products made?
Our butters are 100% made in the USA - right outside of Chicago!
Is it safe to eat an entire jar of Dastony Sprouted Almond Butter in one sitting? ..... :)
